about the Wood Duck Project

Growing by Leaps and Bounds

The NCWA Wood Duck Production Project is growing by leaps and bounds in the Summer/Fall of 2003. NCWA technicians and biologists have worked hard in establishing quality nest box projects to both private landowners as well as those projects benefiting the public duck hunter and birdwatcher.

Projects established thus far include Mattamuskeet Ventures, Oakely Plantation. Jones Island Club, Buchanan Shoals Sportsman, Summer Duck Farms, Outfall Farms, and the Fork Plantation. Other projects in the developmental stage also include Crow Creek Farms and Worthington Property. These are just a few of the quality NCWA Wood Duck Production Project cooperators throughout North Carolina, and more projects are being recruited.

In addition to the Lake Mattamuskeet Nest Box Project, the NCWA Wood Duck Production Project has already come to an agreement with the North Carolina Department of Transportation to establish a 10 nest box project on mitigated land near Grimesland, NC. NCWA will donate these nesting units, installation services, as well as maintenance and productivity checks to ensure that wetlands in all areas of North Carolina will reach their full potential.
Wood Duck Project technicians and biologists have already begun the installation season.

If you or someone you know has suitable habitat for establishing a nest box project, contact NCWA headquarters at 704 552 0906 to find out more about getting started today.

A volunteer program chairman from each committee will work with NCWA and landowners to provide this service.
